Watch: Dr. Ivan Bracic on Training Your Pelvic Floor Like Any Other Muscle

By

In this short, Dr. Ivan Bracic, DC, clinical director at Novaré Injury Care and Rehab in Fort Myers, explains why so many women who are told to do Kegels for bladder leakage see little change. He says many squeeze the wrong muscles, and that the pelvic floor, like any other muscle, needs proper activation, repetition and consistency. A doctor or pelvic floor physical therapist can check that you are working the right muscles.

Every woman with bladder leakage gets told the same thing: do your Kegels. Yet here's the problem. Most women can't even activate the right muscles correctly. They squeeze the wrong ones and nothing improves.

And even if they do it right, they would need thousands of correct repetitions to see real results.

Your pelvic floor is like any other muscle. It needs high repetition, proper activation and consistency. Doing 10 Kegels at a stoplight isn't going to cut it.

That's why most women try them, they see nothing change, and then they assume this is just their life from here on out. It's not your fault that they didn't work. This method just has some serious limitations.
